Having trouble starting conversations? It’s a fairly common problem – in fact, it happens to most people, though some more than others. This article will get you started on understanding why it happens and how to stop it.

When are you unable to start conversations? Is it with strangers? With a date? In a room full of people? The chances are it is one of these types of situation?

To put it another way, it is unlikely that you find it hard to start conversations when you are with your friends, family or at work. So what’s the difference? You are outside your comfort zone. With the likes of friends and family, they are familiar to you, and so you feel comfortable with them; you know what to expect of them, they know what they can expect of you, they already know all about you – so you are not trying to impress them or scared you will make a fool of yourself.

In situations where you are not comfortable, you start to think about what you should and shouldn’t say, you limit yourself, you try to impress – you’re not being your normal, typical self that can talk with ease amongst family, friends and co-workers.

While learning some conversation starters will help you along the way – you ultimately want to be comfortable in any situation; this is a topic that is beyond the scope of this article. However, we hope we have enlightened you a little as to why you are most likely having trouble starting conversations.
